Financial help for an unemployed mother in Austria

In Austria as a new mother you are entitled to:-

a) Kinderbetreuungsgeld (depending on what you decide you can receive either €1000/ month for the first 12 months of the child's life or  €800/month for 15months or  €436/month for 30 months or  €624/ month for 20 months. For more information check out the official government site:- https://www.help.gv.at/Portal.Node/hlpd/public/content/8/Seite.080601.html

b) Familienbeihilfe - Approximately €175,70 per month.

c) Additionally, you can also receive some little support from the Arbeits Markt Service(AMS), which is the unemployment office, if you are unemployed. This was the approximately €300 per month I received through my ex-husband.

The most important thing to note as a foreigner is that this money, by default, is paid out to the mother. If in the case that you do not  speak German it could be, as was in my case, that I stupidly signed a waiver to allow my then husband to receive the money. This was, however, later corrected after my divorce.
